Title: Spatial Development and Planning in Germany
Description: English language version of report submitted to the Federal German Parliament in 2000, the first Spatial Planning Report to be submitted since 1993. This explains the role of spatial planning in pursuing sustainable spatial development of Germany's territory, in promoting equivalent living conditions in Germany's regions, and in strengthening regional resources. It provides an approach to describing the spatial structure of the german territory, illustrated with maps and case examples. It refers to transport corridors, central places and the urban network, polycentric and monocentric settlement forms, and urban-rural relations. It explores mobility patterns in the territory and identifies a range of inter-regional disparities. It also describes the machinary of spatial planning in Germany, and some of the policy concepts and experiences in urban networks and trans-border co-operation.
