Description: Cities increasingly use cultural events to improve their image, stimulate urban development and attract visitors and investment. Rotterdam staged the 'Cultural Capital of Europe' event in 2001 aiming to position itself as a cultural destination. Questionnaire responses are used to evaluate the image effects of the event and In depth interviews with policy-makers and cultural managers are used to allow evaluation of survey findings in the context of more in depth qualitative material.
